Members of AIA Orange County and the Orange County Chapter Construction Specifications Institute (OCCCSI) gathered for a joint meeting at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim.  Since members of both groups are involved in design and construction and often collaborate on projects, AIAOC and OCCCSI would like to continue a joint event each year.

After a social hour and dinner, Moe Fakih presented a program:  The Road to Net Zero Energy Buildings.  What is it and How to Comply?  Moe Fakih is the Director of Sustainability at VCA Green.  Moe gave a clear overview of how changes to the California Energy Codes are heading towards Net Zero.  The California Energy Commission has set a goal that all new residential construction projects built after 2020 shall be Net Zero:  a building will produce as much energy as the building consumes.  Moe reviewed:  1) What is a Net Zero building and how is it defined / measured;  2) How designers can better prepare themselves to design towards Net Zero goals;  3) How energy modeling, HERS measures, and building commissioning can be used to achieve a Net Zero building.

As noted on AIAOC’s calendar, October 13th, there will be an OCCCSI product and services show at the Marconi Automotive Museum.
