A Campus Enrichment Project by LPA, Inc.
June 14, 2016
The AIAOC COTE team hosted a fun and informative tour at Johnson Middle School inWestminsterr, CA, on June 14th. The tour was guided by the LPA Project Designer, Krista Smallwood, and the Project Manager, Sam Lim. We toured the school’s new Gymnasium, a new Exploration Center (a 2-story science and classroom facility), a multi-purpose room conversion to a new Innovation Center, and multiple site improvements, including a new lunch shelter. The school enrichment project includes many sustainable features, and was designed to meet LEED for Schools Silver Certification. The school Principal, Daniel Owens, was also on hand to help us understand how the students are using their newly enriched school amenities, and how the school is integrating a variety of learning styles into their science, engineering, arts, and technology spaces. We learned how flexible design supports different sized groups and a variety of programs. We all wanted to learn and play at this facility!
